Art can communcate ideas and purposes or functions. The idea communicated by the work of art, or the function of a work of art is influenced or even mandated by the culture of the artist who made it.

Question:

In the works of art this class has looked at, what are some examples of ideas or functions that are specific to the culture in which the art was made? Are there examples in the art we've looked at of ideas or functions that are independent of a specific culture, that might be called global, that might be communcated by anyone regardless of where or when they lived?
